Best Practices and Princples For Building World-Class SAP Training and Support Organisations
Research proves that a critical yet often overlooked and underestimated component of every SAP project plan is training and support for your end users. Project Managers as well as those assigned the tasks of leading SAP training and support are frequently unfamiliar with what goes into building a detailed training and support strategy, which must then be incorporated into your overall SAP project plan, timeline and budget.
Separate-yet related, back-to-back half-day sessions will examine in detail the critical questions that must be answered for you to build a strong training and support program that fits YOUR implementation and is sustainable after go-live. Each session is a facilitated dialogue among the facilitator and participants where we will examine options for providing effective training and support, as well as the benefits and risks of each option, enabling you to make program choices that are best suited for your organisation.
The morning session will focus on end user training. We will:
- Examine the primary components of a comprehensive training plan
- Examine the skills required for an effective training coordinator
- Examine the different types of training delivery options, including online, classroom (instructor-led) and one-on-one, discussing the factors to consider when making your training decisions
- Discuss the important, integrated relationship of training with documentation and support
- Examine actual training strategies in detail, to gain an understanding of how to estimate resources, costs and timelines
- Explore the differences in how training should be designed for a first-time go-live vs. refresher and new employee training
- Identify the factors to include in your post-go-live (maintenance) strategy to ensure that training is up-to-date
- Identify the various tasks, roles, responsibilities, skills and competencies necessary to develop and deliver quality training
- Examine training development and delivery options, including in-house and outsourced, and the related benefits and challenges of each option

- Examine a 3-tiered end user support model that utilises the most appropriate resources, including super users, Help Desk, business specialists, etc.
- Explore the critical elements to include for a super user program that meets both immediate and long-term support needs
- Discuss the important, integrated relationship of support with training and documentation
- Examine the use of Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) and Operating Level Agreements (OLA’s) to ensure service delivery that balances resource realities with end user expectations
- Identify the various tasks, roles, responsibilities, skills and competencies necessary to develop and deliver quality support
- Identify widely used support tools to document, track and follow-up on system issues
- Examine options for support delivery, including in-house and outsourced and the related benefits and challenges of each option
- Discuss how the competency center concept can be applied to support
- Identify ways to measure support effectiveness as part of a continuous improvement effort
