Special Guest Speaker:  Barbara Holborow: Those Tracks on My Face
Barbara Holborow has always been interested in children’s rights and was integral in the establishment of free legal aid for children in 1973. From then on, Barbara championed the cause of children, working almost exclusively in the Children’s Courts. She was appointed to the bench and was a Children’s Court Magistrate in Sydney for twelve years. Barbara spent a good part of her magisterial career presiding over the toughest children’s courts. Every day she viewed life as few people have witnessed it. Barbara Holborow fought to bring about changes and is proud of what she achieved. Her opinions are regularly sought by the media. She opened her court to the cameras of “60 Minutes”, thereby giving countless numbers of people the opportunity to witness and experience a world, that with any luck they would never become involved in themselves. “Those Tracks on My Face” was Barbara Holborow’s first book and is at times gritty and heartbreaking, but you will marvel at the courage and honour of this remarkable woman who continues to lobby so hard for justice for Australia’s youth. In 2008, Barbara Holborow was named an Australia Day Ambassador.
