Strong Change Management controls with an easily auditable system have become significant drivers for many businesses, especially in light of initiatives such as SOX/JSOX. At the end of 2007 Bridgestone Australia were: using a home-grown Microsoft Access issue database that we had outgrown several years earlier; needing to meet internal Change Management needs; facing a confronting future with auditable JSOX Change Management Requirements; wanting to utilise the knowledge gained from earlier user requests and system changes. The goal - the integration of the SAP systems for National Foods (NF) and Dairy Farmers (DF) into a single SAP system - using a project team split between two cities - without compromising critical supply chain activities. Dairy Farmers users were going to experience a reduction in functionality and this had to be addressed.

To assist the project team all possible features of Solution Manager were utilised: implementation roadmaps; business process definition; configuration management; system documentation; issue management; and test management. The project schedule was used to drive clarity of the tasks and accountabilities amongst all team members. To address support processes being designed and built as the system was handed over from the project team, we took the responsibility to incorporate system monitoring into the core solution roll out. This meant that the system monitoring processes were built, tested and documented prior to the implementation.

This demonstration showcases a BPM process whereby a retailer stocks both supplier brands as well as their own generic brands. A market survey company has made some recommendations about new products that the retailer should add to their assortment and the organisation needs to perform the following tasks in several systems:

Many of today's organisations implement an SOA strategy to support interaction between multiple business applications and also provide application-agnostic web services for consumption by a variety of end-user channels. Within the Retail Banking industry, leading institutions have an architecture that utilises front-end channels for end-user interaction rather than providing direct user-access to underlying applications. Channel examples include customers via internet banking, IVR and ATMs and staff via branch and call centre applications. These primarily real-time transactions require a robust integration architecture that can support high transaction volumes in a reliable and scalable manner.

CBA have implemented a SAP Banking Services (SAP-BS) solution that provides customer and account data management, product configuration, transaction processing, pricing and correspondence functions, utilising and extending SAP BS standard integration to create a suite of web-services called by the Bank's SOA Layer. The SOA layer is built on MS .net framework utilising MS BizTalk to provide orchestrated service interaction between the front-end and other integral applications.

As of today, the field of Business Process Management can be seen as mature. There is a sophisticated understanding of various aspects such as what patterns exist in business processes, how to support business processes through workflow technology, or how to express business processes in models. Many standards exist in the field of BPM, such as for modelling standards and methods that are widely adapted.

However, despite the fact that the BPM market is mature, significant and growing, technological progress is limited and the BPM community structure is unfavourable with respect to the goals of BPM. Many BPM projects are primarily top-down initiatives, hence supported and pushed by senior executives (in contrast to e-mail or Wikis for instance). Furthermore, BPM is mostly heavy-weight in terms of infrastructure, tools and technologies and languages. Many BPM technologies are rather inflexible which makes them unsuitable for many processes where agility is necessary. Finally, inter-organisational process integration can be cumbersome and cost-intensive.

In order to address the growing BPM market appropriately in the future, four steps are necessary: Bring BPM into the Cloud; make BPM Lightweight; make BPM collaborative; make BPM a commodity. Alexander Dreiling will show a number of hands-on prototypical applications that support his vision of a Process-centric
Application Platform-as-a-Service.

This session will introduce you to the benefits of asynchronous Enterprise Services. Learn about the use cases when asynchronous message based communication is preferred over synchronous direct calls. We will cover

ASICS Oceania (ASICS) are leading the way in their innovative use of technology to automate time consuming and error-laden manual processes flowing into the SAP system. Through the use of IFbA, ASICS have implemented an interactive Sales Order form, without the need for end user training or change management, which has resulted in orders being generated in the SAP system in near real time, as well as removing the need for the admin overhead which previously had to chase up incomplete or inaccurate sales orders and manually enter them into the system.

Next ASICS plans to tackle their New Account Process, and has plans for their Pricing and non-stock Vendor Purchase Ordering and Invoicing through the strategic use of the IFbA technology.

Eighteen months ago we were running most of our core business systems (HR, Payroll, Finance, GIS, BI) on early to mid 90's architectures. The idea was to move to 2009 in 18 months. The five year infrastructure refresh funding rolled around and we thought that we could use the money to save money. Top of the pops was Disaster Recovery (DR), Scalability, High Availability, Capacity, Storage, Productivity/Speed (time to deploy), Management and Performance.

We went about implementing a Virtual landscape including the VMWare product. However our success is not down to VMWare alone but to how we have integrated VMWare with other “Environment and Landscape” considerations. We also built a new Storage Area Network (SAN) stretched across our Primary and DR site; we built redundant fibre communications links and built Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) at the Primary and DR site. These things together have delivered enormous flexibility, scalability, capacity, productivity and redundancy.

At the Department of Immigration we faced many challenges around SAP and business system access, security, segregation of duties and sheer volume of paperwork needed for access to the Department’s 200 plus systems. Hundreds of staff, contractors, consultants and vendor partners needing up to two weeks before they were granted access and becoming productive. Thousands of man years wasted. As well as this there were many problems with keeping sensitive material from falling into unauthorised hands.

Having incurred an adverse finding from Australian National Audit Office which Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) had to address, we developed a 2 stage approach where we implemented SAP’s GRC solution to address these challenges. In 2003, Dow Corning launched their first web-based portal named Xiameter.com based upon a very successful global single instance of SAP which supports the entire Dow Corning business. A web front end was developed, which leveraged the global configuration of the business rules inside our SAP system.

A couple of years later, again leveraging the global SAP system, the company also introduced web-based order-entry capability on their flagship dowcorning.com website. Fast forward to 2009, the company has chosen, once again, to take innovative steps in renovating the Xiameter.com platform - both from a business model design and the ever critical technology platforms that the business is built upon.

With all of the new web-based technology components integrated with the global SAP system and some new Supply Chain Management functionality, the relaunched Xiameter.com website allowed the business to expand the customer experience on the site. The technology changes over the six year timeframe were enormous and so are the challenges that the IT department faced to deliver the desired solutions.

ETSA Utilities has made the strategic decision to use SAP Enterprise Portal and Web Dynpro for ABAP as our standard User Interface technology for developing web applications. To align with this decision they have undertaken a project to convert an existing external facing Web Dynpro Java application to Web Dynpro for ABAP. This presentation will cover their experience and highlight the advantage of moving towards Web Dynpro for ABAP. It will also cover the considerations and strategy used for securing corporate data from unauthenticated users, while still making it accessible through an External facing Portal on the Word Wide Web. As part of a their ECC6 upgrade, the Department of Human Services (DHS) decided to throw their fragile 31H Workflow baby out with their Workplace-based bathwater. A new, focused design using ABAP OO workflow and Web Dynpro ABAP has resulted in an ESS-Workflow system consisting of one WDA application and one Business Workflow Template servicing numerous HR processes. As the single template workflow design drove the development, this presentation investigates the design process of the single workflow model. Key areas we will cover are:

The goal - the integration of the SAP systems for National Foods (NF) and Dairy Farmers (DF) into a single SAP system - using a project team split between two cities - without compromising critical supply chain activities. Dairy Farmers users were going to experience a reduction in functionality and this had to be addressed.
